Scorpio Season

Scorpio – October 23 through November 22. Three stages of existence: Scorpion, Eagle, and Phoenix. Ancient Ruler: Mars. Modern Ruler: Pluto. Water (Emotional). Fixed (Stubborn). Feminine energy ruled by masculine planets. The underworld, death, sex, vengeance, obsession, power, creativity, passion, devotion, and transformation.

Sounds pretty dark, doesn’t it? Trust me, Scorpios are accused of everything from murderous intentions to the most perverted of pleasures. Scary and sexy, you’ll meet many Scorpios who revel in the descriptors of their sign. Black leather, black boots, blood red lips – a whole world of power and seduction oozing out like a dark fog. And, it can all be true. However, unlike the other signs of the zodiac, Scorpios have three levels of existence they swim in. The choice for ultimate transformation lies within them.

With the ancient ruler of Mars, Scorpio is a warrior, but unlike their Arien brothers and sisters who run around fighting the good fight on an Outward battlefield, Scorpios take the fight inward. It doesn’t mean they can’t fight (it goes along with the whole Lord of Darkness thing if one’s able to take on an enemy physically with skill), but the greater purpose is to fight their internal battles, to rise above their own darkness within and soar.

That internal battle is being constantly waged. This is where the transmutative magic of Scorpio happens: on the inside. The first stage of Scorpio gives vengeance blindly. Dark and brooding, no slight will be tolerated. And, for Scorpio at this stage, vengeance is best served cold – but they’re not above quickly stinging an offender right in the moment, either. Withdrawn and secretive, only allowing a few trusted souls into their circle, the Scorpion exists to protect and defend itself and its close-knit, hand-picked tribe. Betray them, and you are dead to them-after they punish you, of course.

Heaven help their enemies. Yes, they really want to kill you, at least emotionally, for all of the pain you brought them. They can change the world around them to their own tastes, the World be damned!

But, there are these pesky feelings. Thoughts bubbling up from some dark place, “Maybe I shouldn’t have…” “Why did I…” “Is the world really so untrustworthy?” And the alchemy begins.

The next stage is The Eagle. Sharp, deadly, beautiful, and powerful. The Eagle will not tolerate slights, but they’ve considered things. They are wiser now. They let out their compassion (a deeply guarded secret), for Scorpios are deeply compassionate towards those weaker and less capable. The Eagle can differentiate between intentional slights and fumbling. For their enemies, there is a stern response, and then the Eagle moves on. For those who stumbled into the Eagle’s path blindly, there is mercy. And, the Eagle is learning how to forgive.

There is also a capacity for taking the loyalty of a Scorpion and transmuting it into committment to a cause. The Eagle, from its higher vantage point, sees the troubles of its territory and can use its great willpower to transform it.

Flying in the rays of the sun, the Eagle takes in the journey of self transformation. You’ll hear them say things like, “I used to get so angry…” “I used to hate…” Forgiveness, and the desire for something more than the vengeance and obsession of passions, begins to take root, and the profound capacity for love and devotion can grow to include themselves and their communities.

And, within, there can be a bubbling…a growing awareness of the World and its suffering. Why is the World suffering, and what can be done about it?

Finally, the Phoenix emerges. A rare stage in development, the Phoenix burns through its own flesh, cyclically, in a constant state of renewal. The petty obsessions and dictates of the previous two levels are seen from a higher perspective. The World is now their focus, and when the Phoenix’s internal compass finds its own North, the World is forever changed. This is the wisdom and intentional peace of the Scorpio nature benefitting the world and shrugging off its previous dramas and fears.

And, you can see these internal phases in famous Scorpios like Bill Gates, Charles Manson, Hillary Clinton, Theodore Roosevelt, Prince Charles, Marie Curie, Sylvia Plath, Voltaire, Johnny Carson, Katy Perry, Ryan Gosling, Weird Al, Pablo Picasso, John Candy, Jenny McCarthy, Carl Sagan, Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keefe…

Not a terribly cuddly list, and some are downright terrifying, but you can’t say they didn’t transform the world in one way or another.

And, yes, they are some of the most passionate people you will ever meet. Hey! Stop wiggling those eyebrows and sizing them up for a wild evening. Because many Scorpios share one trait that others overlook when assessing a Scorpio – loyalty. Many Scorpios would rather give their sexual energy to one soul mate than a wide range of meaningless encounters. Plus, you NEVER choose the Scorpio first, they selected you months before, maybe years before, and knew whether they’d allow you into their world (or not) before you even considered it.

It doesn’t mean they aren’t capable of promiscuity or infidelity, they are, but it gives a Scorpio no greater pleasure than to sexually and emotionally bond with one special soul who knows them at the deepest level. Ah, Love – not the light-hearted games of the air and fire signs, or the steady (dull) loyalty of the Earth signs, but the kind of love that leaves its brand on your soul…that’s the kind of love Scorpio is after.

Complex and deep, Scorpios are hard to understand. The brave soul who tries will be rewarded with a loyal friend, or mate, for life. And, like every other human being, Scorpios need and want connection, sometimes desperately. Remember, under the veneer of steel armor lies a thoughtful heart that understands the meaning of loyalty and commitment. That kind of love and friendship is what makes Scorpio worth getting to know.

Scorpios ultimately die to themselves – their life is a constant journey to create, destroy, and recreate themselves. They are here to grow their own souls, with the potential to improve the world around them in the process. But, it’s always a choice, and that is a choice that only the soul born into this sign can make.

P.s. – I almost forgot to mention! This is my favorite sign because I am a Scorpio Sun/Scorpio Ascendant with a stellium in Scorpio.
